About us
Who we are
InCommon is a charity bringing generations together. We connect groups of young people with their older neighbours in retirement homes to learn and build friendships together. Our activities help to improve wellbeing for participants of all ages and build more connected, inclusive and age-friendly communities.
We are currently a dynamic team of 7, led by co-founders Charlotte and Laura and supported by a fantastic Trustee board. We partner with schools, youth groups, housing associations and other community organisations to connect people of different ages in meaningful ways that benefit everyone taking part. More than 2300 people have made an intergenerational connection through InCommon, and older people have volunteered over 3200 hours sharing their knowledge, energy and experience to support young people’s learning.
Our culture and values
We believe in Purpose: Making a meaningful contribution to the world around us drives everything we do at InCommon. We believe that we all have lots to give and that everyone, of every age, should have opportunities to make a difference in their communities.
We value delight: We all need a little delight in our lives, whether that’s receiving a thoughtful message or experiencing something special together. We want our work to feel delightful for everyone taking part.
We are all learners: Learning enriches life, at every age. We believe in being open to feedback and discovering new things around us, and we hope that everyone learns something new through our work.
We make things happen together: We love collaborating with others and believe that everyone has something to bring to the table. Working across the generations brings people with different experiences and perspectives together - and it’s fun too!
We include evreyone: It’s really important to us that no one gets left out. We work hard to remove barriers to accessing our work, from our programmes to our recruitment processes. We aspire to support everyone, of every age, to take part as much as they can.
