About us

Who we are

IMIX works to create an open and welcoming Britain for refugees and migrants by shifting public attitudes and influencing media, political, and public debates.

We collaborate with organisations across the refugee and migration sector to strengthen communications capacity through training, one-on-one support, and resources. Our work includes training on media engagement, storytelling, social media, and audience insights. We also provide tailored guidance to smaller organisations, helping them achieve more with limited resources and amplify their messages to wider audiences.

At the heart of our approach is a commitment to working with people with lived experience of the UK immigration system. We help them develop the skills and confidence to share their stories and advocate for change. Through our Storytellers Network, we support individuals to speak directly to the media, creating opportunities for their voices to be heard in public debates about migration.

We also work closely with journalists to improve how migration stories are told. This includes building relationships with the media, providing practical advice on trauma-informed reporting, and connecting journalists with credible sources and expert voices from across the sector. By fostering these connections, we aim to shift narratives and ensure that the realities of migration are reported with greater accuracy, fairness, and humanity.

Our culture and values

IMIX Culture and Values

At IMIX, our culture is grounded in collaboration, inclusion, and a shared commitment to creating a welcoming and just society for migrants and refugees. Guided by our values, we aim to foster a supportive and inclusive environment both within our organisation and in our work with partners. Here’s what defines our culture:

Core Values

  1. Migrants First

    • We believe those with lived experience of migration have a critical role as leaders, experts, and advocates. Their voices, priorities, and well-being are central to everything we do, and we ensure their involvement at every level of our organisation.
  2. Connection

    • Collaboration is at the heart of our work. By building lasting, trusted relationships with migrants, grassroots and larger organisations, and the media, we aim to shift the narrative around migration for the better. Open communication and shared skills are key to achieving this collective impact.
  3. Equity and Inclusion

    • We value diversity and challenge systemic barriers and injustices. Acknowledging that migration is often just one part of an individual’s story, we actively work to dismantle the inequalities faced by migrants and refugees while promoting inclusion in all we do.
  4. Championing

    • We lead boldly in the migration and refugee communications space. By empowering individuals and organisations to tell their stories, we inspire transformative change. Our commitment is long-term, with a focus on creating sustainable progress.
  5. Learning

    • We continuously seek new perspectives, ideas, and approaches, growing alongside the people and organisations we support. Curiosity and adaptability guide our responses to the ever-evolving challenges of migration today.

How We Work

  1. Collaboration

    • We work alongside individuals with lived experience of migration, sector organisations, and journalists to amplify migrant voices and ensure their stories shape public narratives.
  2. Commitment to Justice

    • Recognising migration as a racial justice issue, we challenge the legacies of colonialism and systemic racism that underpin hostility toward migrants. Anti-oppressive practice is embedded in all aspects of our work.
  3. Focus on Change

    • By targeting "persuadable" audiences, we aim to shift public attitudes on migration. Our work is data-driven and strategically designed to create long-term narrative change.
  4. Innovation and Responsiveness

    • From crafting strategic messaging to offering crisis communications support, we adapt quickly to emerging challenges and opportunities. Our approach is informed by sector-wide insights and best practices.

Our Team Culture

  • Inclusive and Supportive: We prioritise staff well-being, flexible working, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Empowering and Collaborative: We encourage staff to take ownership of their work while fostering a strong sense of teamwork and shared purpose.
  • Focused on Impact: We are united by a common mission to create meaningful change, with a commitment to listening, learning, and evolving together.

By aligning our internal culture with our mission and values, IMIX works as a trusted and collaborative partner to build a more open and welcoming Britain for migrants and refugees.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

At IMIX, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are central to everything we do. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, feels valued and supported. We do not tolerate discrimination on any grounds, including race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or religion, and strive to ensure that all staff, partners, and stakeholders are treated equitably.

Our approach to EDI is proactive. We work to accommodate individual needs, remove barriers, and provide opportunities for professional growth for everyone we engage with. For us, equity means recognising the unique challenges faced by individuals and communities and addressing systemic barriers to create a level playing field.

By embedding these principles in our work, we aim to reflect the diverse communities we serve and build a culture of respect, collaboration, and empowerment.
