About us
Who we are
Human Relief Foundation (HRF) is an international, UK-based charity established in 1991 (UK Charity Commission registration no. 1126281). In the years since beginning operations, HRF has become internationally recognised. In April 2003, it was granted Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. HRF is a signatory of the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and has a partnership agreement with the European Commission Humanitarian Aid (ECHO).
Since starting operations in response to the First Gulf War in Iraq, HRF has engaged in many humanitarian contexts around the world, including Somalia, Jordan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Ghana. Within these contexts, HRF has implemented programmes across many sub-sectors of the humanitarian system, including food security and livelihoods, WASH, shelter, education and protection. With seven permanent relief offices strategically located around the world at its headquarters in the UK, HRF is able to provide assistance globally whenever and wherever it is needed. HRF provides emergency relief and assistance to people caught up in extraordinary, life-threatening situations, development cooperation to help people to build a better life and find their own solutions to local and global problems, and conflict transformation learning and skills support programmes.
HRF envisions a world in which every man, woman and child can enjoy an empowered life with security, dignity and equal opportunities, in which the basic requirements of all people are met. Our mission is to achieve lasting improvement in the quality of life of all people, regardless of their gender, race, religion, class or political affiliation, by mobilising resources, building partnerships and developing local capacities.
