About us
Who we are
Established in 2000, Home-Start Glasgow South now supports families across the whole of the South Side of Glasgow. We are now the largest Home-Start scheme in Scotland, now employing eighteen staff. In 2016/17, we supported 292 vulnerable families and 623 children. We provide tailor-made, confidential support for vulnerable families, with at least one child under the age of eight, living in the South Side of Glasgow. We work closely with families struggling with the challenges of being a parent and the impact of family life. We exist to improve the lives of the parents and their children. Home-Start Glasgow South offers a unique approach to family support. We work with families, and through one-to-one conversation with parents, strive to understand and support family needs as they see them. Support is given by a dedicated network of volunteers. They are the lifeblood of our organisation, providing vital practical and emotional weekly support to families in their own homes. For families in more acute need we can also provide intensive support through a Family Support Worker. We have seen a significant increase in referrals to our service since 2014, with a year-on-year 30% increase. There are no other similar services available to families in the South of Glasgow. To ensure we can meet this need we must recruit, train, and support over 100 new volunteers a year. We believe that children need a safe and happy environment in which to grow and develop.
