Who we are

The Hispanic Welfare Association acts as an advice agency to the Spanish speaking communities of the United Kingdom seeing a range of clients with different problems weekly. Currently a Caseworker plus two part time secretaries supports the service- the service operates in people’s homes or locations convenient to them. The Vision for 2015 requires an expansion of the services provided, to offer more help to the community as well as support our work overseas. Advice is given in a Christian context and we work closely with a local church for clients who want to know more – we will , however, see any one regardless of belief, race, nationality, age or sexual orientation. The Hispanic Welfare Association also currently employs 5 teachers and offers supplementary education to about 90 children in a deprived part of Bogota, Colombia. The Hispanic Welfare Association’s 2015 Vision sets out ambitious growth targets for both the number of projects we will work with and the number of children and families involved. There will be a minimum of three active projects, up from one previously with a range of different types of work – in addition a medical/first aid project is under active consideration. The cost to the Hispanic Welfare Association will double during 2015. All projects are managed by local staff working to agreed standards but attention is needed to ensure that the projects deliver what is agreed and make best use of the opportunities available. The planned growth, multi site multi project working and increased demand for funding will place a strain on existing resources in the United Kingdom and in Colombia – as a result the Hispanic Welfare Association has agreed to set up a field Office in Colombia, as have other charities to help manage and develop the projects it will support in Colombia. This is an exciting time in the history of the Hispanic Welfare Association and represents a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and families.
