About us
Who we are
Herts Young Homeless (hyh) was established as a registered charity in 1998 to improve social inclusion for homeless young people in Hertfordshire. We are a team of 45 people, based in Hatfield but working across the county.
We work with 16-24 year olds who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness and those aged 10-15 whose families are at risk of relationship breakdown. We also work with those aged 18+, including care experienced young people and those with mental health and substance misuse challenges, with housing and support needs.
hyh Vision: Every young person has a safe home from which they can grow and thrive.
hyh Mission: To break the cycle of youth homelessness in Hertfordshire through education, advice and support for young people and their families.
hyh Values:
- Open: We are purposefully inclusive; we pledge to reach out to young people in our local communities, their families, and service partners to design solutions together.
- Expert: We run services based on the evidence of what works; we pledge to innovate, to create new ways to tackle youth homelessness and share what we learn.
- Big-hearted: We are all passionate about turning around young people’s lives; we pledge to put good outcomes for young people at the centre of all we do.
