About us
Who we are
The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) is the trusted voice and leading source of information for the conservation of Hebridean whales, dolphins and porpoises. We are passionate about enhancing knowledge and understanding of Scotland’s whales and dolphins, through a programme of locally-based education, and high quality research and monitoring. We take pride in working with local communities to ensure whales, dolphins and porpoises are protected and valued throughout the Hebrides.
Research
Our specialised research vessel, Silurian, travels thousands of nautical miles every year, monitoring Hebridean seas, collecting data to create a better understanding of Scotland's whales and dolphins and the threats they face.
Education
HWDT visits schools and communities across the west coast of Scotland to champion the special diversity of marine life present in the Hebrides and the national importance of this local marine habitat.
Conservation
HWDT is the leading voice for the conservation of Hebridean whales and dolphins. We provide data and advice to those who manage Scotland's marine environment to ensure effective conservation of the area's diverse whale populations.
