About us
Who we are
Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust is an award-winning charity and community owned organisation governed by local people. Our vision is to make Cambuslang and Rutherglen the healthiest and happiest places to live in Scotland. We aim to tackle disadvantage and improve lives and communities so they are thriving, resilient and healthy.
We work with people of all ages, across the whole population, however we focus on helping those in challenging circumstances. The communities we support are in the 5-20% most deprived in Scotland and are affected by issues such as unemployment, poverty, alcohol and substance misuse, health inequalities and lower life expectancy. All our work is directed by local priorities.
Fundamentally, we believe wellbeing is more than good health - it’s about feeling good and functioning well. We make a difference by providing purposeful and engaging opportunities for all to enjoy, so they:
- Build Personal Connections and Relationships: through goal planning/wellbeing conversations, self-management and peer support activities, social events, early years activities.
- Get active, outdoors and green: through nature and health walks and activities in greenspaces, cycling classes, growing activities, exercise and relaxation activities.
- Enjoy the benefits of local culture, arts and radio: through CamGlen Radio, our Number 18 Community venue creative arts programme including photography, art, music, community cinema, kids theatre camps and drama.
- Engage in lifelong learning and skill building: wellbeing in the community workshops such as flower arranging, cooking, upcycling, mindfulness, meditation and relaxation and our volunteering opportunities.
- Lead and participate as influential citizens: We support local residents to be actively involved, take the lead and use their influence to help improve their communities and help make their neighbourhood better for all.
We support people to make positive changes in their lives and their community. We provide opportunities to get more involved, to build confidence and self-esteem, to boost skills and relationships, to enjoy more about life and their local community and improve and enhance health and wellbeing.
