About us
Who we are
Headway Aylesbury Vale, an independent charity focused on supporting the needs of Survivors of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), their families and carers. There are some 1500 of these living in the Aylesbury Vale Area and we operate from our specially adapted Hub in Fairford Leys Aylesbury. This is run by our Manager and a small number of paid an volunteer staff.
We are looking to develop the services we provide to the major cohort of suvivors in the 18-30 age range which may well be conducted in the community.
Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) has a devastating effect on the injured and their families and carers. The survivors we deal with will never return to their former selves and often have personality changes that are especially hard for others to deal with.
However the brain is remarkably plastic and with the right support lives of survivors, their families and carers can be significantly improved.
A major problem is that once their immediate injuries have been treated by the NHS, they receive very little support. There is a real danger that they can become isolated and depressed. It is important that rehabilitation into normal society is started as soon as possible and this is where Headway comes in.
Vision
‘A world where people affected by ABI are enabled to integrate back into society in a manner that is acceptable to them.’
Mission
‘To provide services that will form one of the stepping stones of choice for all people affected by ABI in the area covered by Headway Aylesbury Vale, as part of their pathway towards regaining their greatest possible independence.’
