Hastings International Piano

Who we are

Hastings International Piano (HIP) is an independent charity based in Hastings, East Sussex, that was formed in 2020, but its story stretches back more than 100 years. The Hastings Musical Festival, from which it was born, has been taking place in Hastings since 1908. As the piano competition grew we decided in 2020 to make Hastings International Piano an independent charity.  Hastings International Piano not only arranges an internationally-renowned biennial piano concerto competition, but also arranges a regular schedule of events, public concerts and a Learning and Participation programme designed to encourage the appreciation of music amongst all age groups.

Our culture and values

Our charity aims to ensure that high quality classical music is accessible to all and brings the finest young pianists from all over the world to Hastings, for the benefit of their future careers, and for the benefit of the local community. Competitors are involved in our Learning and Participation programme and public concerts, providing more opportunities for our community to access and appreciate excellent artistic experiences, enriching their lives.
