About us

Who we are

HASAG is a charity dedicated to helping people suffering from asbestos-related diseases and their families. We provide a complete source of help and support for anyone living in the South of England, the South East, London or the Home Counties who have been affected by asbestos.

Our free services include:

  • Home visits
  • Information about asbestos-related diseases
  • Help and advice on benefits and compensation
  • Monthly support group coffee mornings

    WHY WE’RE HERE

HASAG was founded in 2006 by Diane Salisbury and Lynne Squibb in memory of their father, Dave Salisbury, who suffered from the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma.

During their father’s illness, the family were surprised by just how many people suffer in the UK due to exposure to asbestos and the lack of help and support available for those affected and their loved ones. They decided that urgent change was needed so that people facing an asbestos-related diagnosis can access information, guidance and support quickly and more easily.

You can read more about their personal story here.

    WHAT WE DO

HASAG is committed to improving the lives of people affected by asbestos. We do this by inspiring, supporting and enabling in a number of ways:

  • Providing information and support
  • Raising awareness of asbestos-related diseases
  • Campaigning and lobbying the Government for better treatments and care
  • Fundraising for more research into asbestos-related illnesses

    MESOTHELIOMA

Mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining of the lungs or, more rarely, the lining of the abdomen (known as peritoneal mesothelioma). Virtually all cases are believed to be caused by exposure to asbestos. There are approximately 2500 cases of mesothelioma diagnosed in the UK each year. It is expected that this figure will continue to rise in the next few years. Historically, mesothelioma treatments have been limited but more therapies are emerging that may have a positive impact on symptoms and survival.
