Who we are
About us
Hackney Migrant Centre (HMC) was established in 2008 by local people and community organisations, to provide advice and support for migrants in Hackney and surrounding areas, irrespective of their immigration status.
HMC delivers a free, weekly advice and support service for vulnerable migrants, focusing on immigration, housing, welfare, and health access. We are dedicated to assisting our visitors in resolving immigration challenges, overcoming homelessness, and destitution in the long-term, while also addressing immediate concerns. Most of our visitors lack secure immigration status or have pending asylum claims, facing destitution due to their immigration status and hostile immigration policies.
HMC currently employs an Operations Manager, an Immigration Manager, and a Volunteer and Participation Manager. They work together with a Fundraiser Officer, an Immigration Advisor, two part time Immigration Caseworkers, two Housing and Destitution Casework Coordinators, and a Hardship Grant and Administrator Officer. HMC’s work is supported by over 60 dedicated volunteers, and we collaborate closely with several partner organisations to ensure visitors can access specialist legal advice and long-term support.
