About us
Who we are
Friends of Moorfields is a charity supporting patients and staff at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, through a 300-strong volunteer service across 10 sites, as well as a range of other projects. Friends have supported Moorfields for over 60 years.
Friends volunteers support the Trust in a variety of ways, from welcoming and guiding visitors, providing emotional support to patients before appointments and during procedures, serving customers in the Friend shop, making appointment reminder calls, supporting staff in the pharmacy, and more.
Friends also:
- operate the Health Information Hub at Moorfields City Road, a drop-in service where patients and their families and carers can get emotional support, information about eye conditions, and advice about benefits and services
- contribute towards the salaries of the health play team to help ensure young patients have the best possible experience
- support small-scale, ad hoc projects like: plants, artwork and fish tanks around the hospital; refurbishing staff wellbeing spaces and patient counselling rooms; providing toys and games for young patients.
