Who we are

Freedom from Torture are the only national charity in the UK solely dedicated to treating men, women and children who have survived the atrocities of torture and organised violence. Since 1985, Freedom from Torture, formerly known as the Care of Victims of Torture, has received over 52,000 referrals from individuals and families from over 100 countries around the world. Freedom from Torture’s West Midland’s centre is based in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, from where we provide psychological therapy and offer medico-legal and practical support to survivors of torture. Our organisational mission includes raising awareness about torture and its consequences.
