About us
Who we are
Free UK Genealogy works with volunteers to make transcriptions of family history records. We are currently working to transcribe the England and Wales index of Births Marriages and Deaths, historic Parish Registers and 19th Century Censuses. We make the databases we create freely available for people to search in order to support their family history research. Almost everyone who works for Free UK Genealogy is a volunteer - we have a support team of just under 3fte who are employed. We are becoming an Open Data organisation, and are a registered charity, transitioning to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
Family History is the UK's most popular hobby. Free UK Genealogy's databases of transcribed records, built by volunteers through some of the world's first crowd-sourcing projects, are well respected across the industry.
