About us
Who we are
FORCE Cancer Charity provides free support and information to anyone affected by cancer at our centre in Exeter and at local community hospitals.
We offer counselling, group sessions, complementary therapies, benefits advice, specialist physiotherapy and exercise guidance and other health and wellbeing support. Our services are available to cancer patients and their families.
The FORCE Cancer Support and Information Centre is on the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital’s Wonford site. It’s open Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays, between 9:30am and 4:30pm.
When possible, we offer weekly support and information in Okehampton and Ottery St Mary.
We also fund local research and buy equipment to improve patient care and support specialist nurses who deliver chemotherapy in our outreach locations.
We are an independent charity. The majority of our work is funded by local donations, fundraising, grants, legacies and our award winning shop.
Our culture and values
You deserve the best possible support and treatment
FORCE has never lost sight of its origins and core belief that people deserve the best possible support and treatment, face to face and close to home. In 2014 we began providing services in Tiverton and Okehampton and in 2018 extended that outreach programme to include Honiton. In 2020 our East Devon service moved to Ottery St Mary, when our partners in the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust began to establish a new cancer hub in the town.
We have also funded the delivery of chemotherapy in those outreach locations by paying for the nurses who administer treatment.
We are committed to improving patient care by funding research and innovation too.
Our values define who we are and the way we work:
Professional
We are experts in our field; designing and delivering high quality services with insight and integrity.
Compassionate
We are inclusive and intent to meet everyone with respect, putting the needs of our beneficiaries at the forefront of all we do.
Responsive
We have the skills and flexibility to reach to change and our face to face services are designed to meet the individual needs of our clients in a timely way.
Empowering
We actively promote learning and development amongst our staff and volunteers and help people to find ways to cope with the change and difficulties a cancer diagnosis can bring.
Innovate
We are pioneers in cancer support and build on our experience to find new ways to support people in a rapidly changing environment. Our investment in research and equipment is focused on brining new and better treatment to people in Devon.
Collaboration
We work collaboratively to learn from others and share our knowledge, enhancing the range and quality of services available to those affected by cancer.
