About us
Who we are
Focus Birmingham is an independent local charity that strives to make lives better by creating opportunities for people with care and support needs, so that they feel empowered to live life to the full, and unlock their potential.
Supported Living
Focus Birmingham provides a supported living scheme with Bromford Housing (Millward Place) in Kings Norton, Birmingham. The supported living scheme provides 24-hour care and support to adults who have visual impairment and other disabilities.
The development consists of 14 self-contained one-bedroom apartments which have been specifically designed with the tenant’s specific needs in mind and to provide a safe and secure long-term home.
In particular, Millward Place has been built with a number of adaptations to support people who have a visual impairment. Hand rails throughout the building, colour contrast of plug sockets, walls, kitchens and bathrooms to enable tenants with some vision mobilise safely around their flat.
Our staff
Our staff strive to deliver the best possible support and receive a full training programme. Ongoing supervision and in-house training ensures that skills remain current and that the support we deliver remains consistent with best practice. In particular, staff are trained to understand the specific needs of our tenants and to use specialist systems of communication where appropriate.
Our service
Our aim is to provide care and support to allow our tenants to live as independently as possible. Day-to-day, our expert care support workers assist with all aspects of care need, such as assisting with washing, dressing and personal care. Their role extends to supporting individuals to access the wider community, such as attending appointments and participating in social activities.
We have a strong focus on maintaining and building contact with family and friends and will offer the people we support every opportunity and assistance to achieve this.
Complex Needs Support
Our Complex Needs Day Service team works with adults from the age of nineteen upwards, with no upper age limit, to deliver stimulating programmes of activities tailored to the needs of the individual. We specialise in working with people with visual impairment and other complex needs and providing appropriate support so that each person can achieve their full potential.
Sight Loss Support
Our Sight Loss Support team works with children and adults to provide a package of support: * Low vision assessments * Information, advice and guidance * Counselling sessions both in person and by telephone * Enablement * Telephone befriending * Activities across birmingham to engage those in the local community with sight loss.
