About us
Who we are
Based in Leicester, FOCUS is a young people’s charity that delivers innovative and creative projects to promote the development of self-esteem, self-confidence, aspirations and skills.
Founded in 1988 by two students, we have supported around 20,000 young people through a range of projects. Many of these specifically target young people in the most precarious positions, including those who are homeless, those from some of the most deprived communities in the country, and those experiencing mental ill-health. We provide leadership skills and project management courses, advocacy, one-to-one support and opportunities to work in teams on community projects.
We have a simple philosophy; we believe that through volunteering and participating in community projects young people can develop vital skills such as leadership, task and project management, team-working, and communication. These skills and experiences help to raise their aspirations and motivation, improve their prospects of gaining employment, re-engage them with education and thereby break the cycle of poverty.
