About us
Who we are
Flint House Police Rehabilitation is a registered Charity offering rehabilitation services to ill or injured serving and retired police officers suffering from a wide variety of physical and mental health conditions. Every year we treat over 3,000 police officers. Located just outside Goring on Thames in our beautiful Flint House and set in 20 acres of ancient woodland and is a beautiful place to work.
Flint House is a renowned facility dedicated to the physical and mental wellbeing of police officers. The Charity was established in 1890, and has been instrumental in providing rehabilitation and support to officers recovering from injuries or facing mental health challenges.
The first Police Seaside Home, Clarendon Villas, was established in Hove in 1890 by philanthropist Miss Catherine Gurney. The Home moved to a new purpose built building, Portland Villas in 1892 and 70 years later as patient numbers increased moved again to the larger premises of Kingsway. By the 1980s, as demand continued to grow, a new home with improved facilities and greater capacity was needed, which is when we moved to Flint House in Goring-on-Thames.
Since 1988, Flint House has expanded to accommodate more officers in need and to massively improve its facilities with modern accommodation, a hydrotherapy centre, a shiny new gym, an all-weather outdoor pitch, and mental health support.
WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO
Flint House is a charity mainly funded by donations from those in the police services. It is with these donations that we help and heal over 3,500 serving and retired police officers each year, providing physical rehabilitation and mental health support.
We treat serving and retired officers from 24 Southern forces. As well as warranted officers, we also treat some police staff – ie PCSOs and Detention Officers.
Flint House offers a safe, relaxed residential environment for serving and retired officers. Everyone is treated with care and respect (no ranks, no hierarchy) by our caring and experienced practitioners.
We have a Board of Trustees, the majority of which are nominated from various police bodies such as: National Police Chiefs Council, Police Superintendents’ Association and Police Federation Boards (National, The Met and Branch Boards). The remaining co-opted trustees are appointed on the basis of their various skills and experience.
