Who we are

Film and Video Umbrella specialises in artists’ moving image. We curate, commission, produce, present and tour moving-image work throughout the UK and internationally in partnership with cultural and other organisations. Since its inception in 1988, FVU’s raison d’etre has been to bring outstanding examples of artists’ moving image to new and diverse audiences across the UK, and to popularise this exciting and vibrant artform with people who might not already know it, or lack an opportunity to see it. Although FVU made its name presenting and promoting existing works from the fields of video art and experimental film, our mainstay now (as it has been for some time) is the commissioning and production of new moving-image works by artists. We are an incubator of talent offering a safe pair of hands in which artists are able to experiment and grow, and our track record demonstrates our ability to identify talent early, and propel it to a new level of accomplishment and critical acclaim.
