About us
Who we are
Our Mission – What we do
Our aim is for every child and young person in Newham to have the opportunity to meet Christians from local churches and find out what it means to be a follower of Jesus in the 21st century.
We work towards this by taking small teams of Christians from different churches and cultural backgrounds into Newham primary and secondary schools to teach Christianity. We recruit, train and mobilise small teams of volunteers from different churches and cultures as well as enable pupils to visit local churches. Our schools’ workers are either trained teachers or have relevant educational experience. Our resources include over 40 RE lessons which link to the local RE syllabus and all are offered free to schools.
Our Vision - Where we want to be in 10 years
To see Faith in Schools working in every school in Newham, supporting other small school’s groups nationwide to become more effective in their work. Additionally, our vision is to have a reputation of high quality outstanding teaching of children and young people, dynamic teamwork of the staff team, with excellent leadership and management.
Our Ethos – What is our motivation for how we operate?
We want to take every opportunity to share our Christian faith in appropriate ways with the people who live around us. We want to do this because Jesus commissioned his followers to go and tell the good news of His Kingdom to all people, every tribe and nationality. There is an opportunity in schools to do this in an educational context. This gives local Christians an opportunity to provide excellent learning about the Christian faith through meeting real live Christians from a community near them. It gives pupils a chance to bring their RE learning to life, and make connections between what Christians believe and their own beliefs. This in turn gives an opportunity to make connections between local schools and the local Christian community.
