About us
Who we are
Essex Blind Charity has been caring for blind and visually impaired people since 1920. Our aim remains to deliver a range of excellent support services to improve the lives of visually impaired people in Essex. The Charity is managed by a Board of Directors, some of whom are visually impaired, who meet monthly to provide strategic direction and ensure the charity meets its objectives.
Essex Sight is the name of our community service and operates from the borders with Suffolk in the north to the M25 in the south and out to the coast. We have a permanent Sight Centre in Colchester and various pop-up Sight Centres that operate in towns throughout the County providing a range of information and equipment to help with everyday living. We are supported by our wonderful volunteers who help with our social events and lived experience. Our Eye Clinic Liaison Officers work within Eye Departments and low vision clinics in Mid and North Essex Hospitals providing support to patients and their families.
