About us
Who we are
The English and Media Centre is an award winning educational charity working with secondary English and Media teachers. We write and publish classroom resources and magazines, run courses and conferences and carry out consultancy in schools. Additionally we run a Media PGCE teacher training course and play an active role in any national developments in our subject area.
We are a close-knit, fully inclusive team, with everybody who works here getting a chance to have a say in what we do. We are lucky enough to have offices in a building that we share with other educational charities.
Our culture and values
These are our core beliefs in relation to teaching English and Media Studies:
- Joy, curiosity and pleasure at the heart of learning
- The importance of student voice
- Collaborative practice as best practice, for both students and teachers
- A diverse curriculum as an entitlement for all
- Education that is just and inclusive
- Practice informed by principles and principles informed by practice
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We have a comprehensive Policy for Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination on our website. This outlines our commitment to engaging actively in anti-discrimination practices, be it in our work with schools or in the workplace.
