About us
Who we are
EdUKaid is a small charity with a big vision.
Founded in 2003, EdUKaid operates in the rural Mtwara region of southern Tanzania improving access to education for some of the country’s most disadvantaged children. We achieve this through simple, low cost and locally embedded interventions – giving these children the chance of a better future. In partnership with local stakeholders, we create lasting changes that contribute to the prosperous development of whole communities driven by our belief that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty in an empowering and sustainable way.
Our vision and goals
Our vision is for a world where every child has access to the education they need to realise their full potential and attain the skills to improve their life’s circumstances.
Our mission is to make lasting changes by improving the provision and quality of education in the developing world because we believe thatto learn is to live.
Five core values are at the heart of what we do and how we behave:
- Community-led
- Sustainability
- Equality
- Inclusion
- Collaboration
Where problems are great and poverty extreme, the challenge can feel overwhelming. EdUKaid seeks to take small, sustainable steps, encouraging the people we are trying to help to overcome and find solutions to these issues. In this way our progress is authentic, integrated and provides the best way forward.
Put simply, our goals are to
- Engage the communities we work with, head teachers, parents and children
- Research projects and pilot them
- Work within local government and education structures to complement their aims
- Facilitates networking and collaboration across schools
- Empower local people
- Implement simple changes that can have a lasting impact
