About us
Who we are
We are fundraising to build a ten-bed Specialist Palliative Care facility with Day Care, Complementary Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Bereavement Counselling.
The whole service will be Specialist Palliative Care Consultant led for the people of Gt Yarmouth & Waveney.
It is so very sad and heart breaking when one looks at the Public Health Statistics from Norfolk and Suffolk on end-of-life care. We are the only area left in the country without a hospice, also having areas with some of the highest depravation in the country.
Margaret Chadd House will provide specialist end-of-life care led by a Specialist Palliative Care Consultant and we will also provide support and training for other agencies and carers. As a local independent charity we believe that there is abundant local enthusiasm, talent and expertise to make the hospice a reality.
We have been working with Architects, Quantity Surveyor, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to get us to tender document stage, with the added bonus that Easement was also granted. We complied with our Planning conditions which gave us planning permission in perpetuity. Currently, we have over 7.54 acres of land in Hopton on the Gorleston border in Norfolk.
Our trustees all have a personal interest in improving palliative care in Gt Yarmouth & Waveney and all have first-hand experience of end-of-life conditions. Perhaps the best known is the late Margaret Chadd who worked with Dame Cicely Saunders to found the UK’s first hospice in 1967. In July 2018 we lost dear Margaret at the wonderful age of 96. Her commitment, logic and enthusiasm stays with us all.
Our current Board of Directors/Trustees possess a variety of skills such as Health & Safety, Medical, Nursing, Leadership, Business Education and NHS Management Experience and Law. The board is run in adherence to The Charities Commission’s requirements and the highest Corporate Governance standards.
