About us

Who we are

We are an independent, volunteer led organisation providing help and support to the residents of Drumchapel and surrounding area with free, confidential, impartial information, advice and assistance (including representation) on issues which affects society, such as social security, immigration, housing, employment, debt and legal matters.  As well as our main operating office in Drumchapel, we provide support in 27 locations across the city.

Our objective is in the delivery of activities for the relief of poverty, through amongst others, in the advancement of education, health, citizenship, community development, human rights, environmental protection or improvement and in the relief of those in need through age, ill health and disability.

Our Bureau is a member of the Scottish Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux (SACAB).  As a member we uphold the aims and principles of the Association, which are

‘to ensure that individuals do not suffer through lack of knowledge of their rights or responsibilities, or of the services available to them, or through an inability to express their needs effectively:

And equally:

To exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services both locally and nationally.

Our service is independent and provides free, confidential and impartial advice and support to everybody regardless of race, sex, disability or sexuality.

Operating since 1963, we have had to constantly change and adapt to meet the ever-increasing needs of our community. We have also grown in size and now have 16 paid members of staff and over 40 volunteers.

Today, as in many other places in Scotland, poverty remains one of the most common and deep-rooted of problems affecting people. Easier access to credit with, often, hefty interest charges for those least able to pay has only served to worsen that situation. The most recent Welfare Reform Act, as well as the disintegration of the discretionary social fund, has exacerbated things further. This means a greater need for the work we provide and the need for our service is not even higher.
