About us
Who we are
Down Syndrome International is a UK based international charity, comprising a 133 country network, improving life for people with Down syndrome, promoting their right to be included as valued and equal members of society. We provide accurate information, support and resources, we capacity build groups in developing countries and train them to advocate for access to medical care, education, employment and basic rights, while enabling people with Down syndrome to advocate for themselves. We represent the global Down syndrome community at the UN, organise the triennial World Down Syndrome Congress and coordinate World Down Syndrome Day, 21 March. Through our initiatives, we underline that where people with Down syndrome face desperate living conditions, exclusion, prejudice and limited opportunities, we must change perceptions and raise awareness about their potential to contribute and live valued lives.
