About us

Who we are

The Dorset Mental Health Forum is an independant peer led charity, run by people with their own experiences of mental health issues.  We understand and value everyone’s experiences of emotional distress and trauma.  Together, we educate and enable, promoting wellbeing and Recovery, bringing about change and offering a range of specialist independent and partnership projects.  Our purpose is to increase understanding of mental health, transforming prejudice around people experiencing or affected by emotional distress and trauma, developing capacity and facilitating evolutionary social change across Dorset.

We are deeply committed to bringing the collective voice of lived experience to the heart of real and sustainable change across Dorset over the next few years.  We believe that mental health is everyone’s business.

Our values of Honesty, Courage, Compassion, Respect and Integrity underpin everything that we do.

“The Forum is by far the most supportive employer I have worked for. I have a level of autonomy and a capacity to affect change that I wasn't able to achieve in my previous employment.”

“I know I have changed people’s lives for the better and I get a great sense of achievement and satisfaction from knowing I have had a positive impact on someone’s life.”
