About us
Who we are
Discovering Prayer's vision is to help people have a joyful and fulfilling relationship with God. We are inspired by Jesus, who said, ‘Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.’ Matthew 11:28
There is a deep hunger in our time for authentic spirituality: people want to learn to pray and experience God in their lives. But many struggle to know how or where to start.
In answer to this need, Discovering Prayer draws from ancient Christian monastic wisdom to create high-quality audio prayer times that guide and inspire people to pray. Over 50,000 people have prayed with us online to date. In ancient times nuns and monks used the most up-to-date methods of their time – sacred art and calligraphy – to reach people. We are using the tools of our day – the internet and audio recordings – to help bring people into a relationship with God and one another.
Discovering Prayer is usually based in a beautiful office at St Andrew’s Church, Linton Road, Oxford, about a mile from Oxford City Centre (though during the Covid-19 pandemic we have worked from home). When we are in the office, we are also part of the community that work and worship in the church and we join in short services during the day.
Our small and friendly team usually work part-time and consist of a founder and director, director of editorial and development, customer care manager, script editor, sound engineer and website developer.
Discovering Prayer aims to be an exciting and fulfilling place to work, offering team members opportunities to develop skills and abilities and also play a key part in helping thousands of people to deepen their relationship with God.
‘Discovering Prayer clearly has a wonderful team supporting its programmes and my prayers are with you as you reach more and more people with the gift of these excellent resources for reflective prayer. We need rhythm and structure more and more in these strange times.’
- The Rt Revd Sarah Mullaly, Bishop of London
