About us
Who we are
In 1974, David Morris, DSUK founder, asked “Why shouldn’t a wheelchair be on top of a mountain?”. We have been trying to solve this problem ever since and remove the barriers to participation for all.
Disability Snowsport UK’s dream is of mountains and slopes free from barriers, where disabled people can learn and take part with family, friends and peers. We work to remove the barriers to taking part so that snowsport is accessible for everyone; regardless of disability, injury or experience
Disability Snowsport UK is the leading adaptive snowsport charity which provides expert adaptive lessons and recreational snowsport groups throughout the UK, as well as delivering opportunities to ski and snowboard in a mountain environment worldwide.
With around 40 staff, and hundreds of volunteers we operate at 12 sites across the UK.
“Skiing means freedom to me. The speed, the enjoyment, the skiing with my friends. I can go where they go, I can go as fast as they go.
“I was involved in a road traffic accident on my motorbike. I fell off and dislocated and fractured my spine. This has left me a T7 complete paraplegic, which means I have no sensation, movement, feeling from my sternum down. I always knew they would be a way for a paralysed person to get back on the slopes. When I go skiing I think of nothing. For those couple of hours I’m just thinking about going down that hill. Nothing else. It’s just bliss.”
