About us
Who we are
An organisation led by disabled people for disabled people, offering support around accessing services and entitlements (e.g. benefits, housing, wellbeing).
Disability Action in Islington (DAII) was set up in 1996 following consultation with local disabled people about what sort of disability rights organisation they wanted in the Borough.
DAII is what is known as a Disabled Peoples Organisation (DPO) This means we were created by and are defined by disabled people. All of our Management Committee members are disabled people as are many of our staff and our volunteers. This creates a unique organisational culture, one that is welcoming to other disabled people, and able to understand the experiences of other disabled people.
From the outset we have had a clear vision of our role and purpose - to assist and enable local disabled people to be better able to access services and entitlements and better able to challenge exclusion and discrimination.
Since 1996 DAII has provided a range of services and projects, raising our profile across the Borough and becoming more effective at getting disability equality and inclusion issues on the local agenda.
