About us
Who we are
We are a registered British charity with a history going back to 1894 but we adopted the name Deafway in 2003. We work with Deaf people locally, nationally and in the developing world. Wherever we work, we are committed to identifying and removing the barriers that prevent Deaf people from achieving their true potential and from participating fully in all aspects of life.
At the core of our work is a passionate belief in the positive role that sign language, the Deaf community and Deaf culture can play in the lives of Deaf people. Sign Language runs through the veins of everything we do – all of our projects, services and activities throughout the world. In the UK, every new member of staff attends a British Sign Language Level 1 course as part of their induction before they can begin work – then a Level 2 course six months later.
