Dance in Devon

Who we are

Dance in Devon is an energetic and imaginative charity for improving lives through dance. We are all about moving together and making local life better through inspiring and meaningful dance adventures. We work with companies, artists, communities and cross-sector partners to develop far-reaching, sociallyinstigated dance projects across Devon and beyond. We make dance more accessible and inclusive to; tackle health and social issues, connect communities or simply brighten someone’s day. We have supported hundreds of dance artists to realise their ambitions to create new choreographies, take risks and to further their professional development. 

Our charitable purpose is;

• to advance education in, and increase the accessibility of, the art of dance, primarily but not exclusively in Devon and always for the benefit of the public
• to facilitate the provision of recreational dance activities in Devon, which are accessible to the general public regardless of their age, ability or social and economic circumstances, in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving their conditions of life.

Our Vision is to create a county where people’s lives are enriched and energised through dance. Our Mission is to inspire, celebrate and develop high quality dance that benefits the people of Devon and beyond.

Our Values are:

• Excellence: ensuring that the dance activities we support and deliver in the county are of the highest quality.
• Partnership: working with a wide range of organisations to deliver effective projects that maximise and deliver our shared objectives.
• Diversity: ensuring that our work recognises and reflects the diverse communities of Devon and combats barriers to taking part that could be economic, social, cultural or geographic.
• Enrichment: offering a wide range of benefits through dance e.g. health, social activity, enhancing quality of life.

Our direct clients are; the general public, artists, educational institutions, local authorities and social commissioners, our arts and non-arts partners and grant providers. We listen to our stakeholders and clients and co-create our projects to be genuinely collaborative, meaningful and responsive to our partners and contexts.
