About us
Who we are
Cultivate Aberdeen SCIO is a community initiative that aims to provide food-growing and sustainable practice education and facilities to local areas across Aberdeen; designed, developed, and sustained by local communities.
We recognise the importance of food and sustainability education and we want to empower the North East to think differently about food; to not only be able to Grow for People, Grow for the Planet, and Grow for Wildlife but to also have the confidence to cook healthy, hearty meals using the fruits of their labour grown right here in the Granite City.
Our aim is to create several gardens which are designed and maintained by our Green-Thumbed Growers – a diverse group of volunteers united by their passion for growing.
Working with various delivery partners, including but not limited to; Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE), Aberdeen’s Sustainable Cities Foot Partnership (SCFPA), and One Seed Forward we aim help families gain the confidence to cook using the fruit and vegetables which will be grown in our community gardens and encouraged to be grown in family plots and window planters. These organisations are driving positive food change that links directly with our aim to make healthy and sustainable food a defining characteristic of the City, and by focusing primarily on young people, to improve their awareness and interest in sustainable environments, is how we hope to create a life-long engagement and positive impact on both their attitudes to food and the wider environment.
