About us
Who we are
Community InfoSource (CIS) is a rights-based, asylum seeker and refugee-led, equalities, grassroots community development organisation, started in 2006 in Glasgow and a registered charity from 2019. Set up by local people, including asylum seekers and refugees who are survivors of abuse, persecution, torture, and trafficking, we work directly with asylum seekers and refugees and with other asylum seeker and refugee-led groups.
Our aim is to support asylum seekers and refugees to know and access their rights, gain skills and confidence, improve mental well-being and resilience and support the asylum seeker and refugee groups we collaborate with to influence policy, improving their lives.
We have 10 Board directors and trustees, 8 are black (4 are women), 7 are from refugee or asylum seeker backgrounds with lived experience of asylum (3 women). Our Chair and Secretary have personal lived experience of asylum, so have vital knowledge of our client group’s experience and of the Home Office, and are well trusted within our client community. Two out of our three Project Managers are black, one of whom has lived experience of asylum. 80% of CIS staff and volunteers are from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds mainly from Africa, Asia and the Middle East and are involved in decision-making.
There is currently a payroll staff of 15. Volunteers are vital to our organisation and we could not operate without them.
We are advertising for a Chief Executive Officer to support Community InfoSource’s Board in directing the work of the organisation, assisting with taking forward its strategic vision and plans for the future, building in sustainability
Building on earlier successes, we wish to employ a CEO to consolidate the organisation, support its sustainability and to help us use our unique knowledge to make positive change.
Funders believe in us and our reputation is good in the city – if you have the knowledge and experience to help us develop further we are looking for YOU!
