About us
Who we are
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is a truly global organisation with operations in 23,000 locations across 154 countries. Tasked with preserving the memory of 1.7million Commonwealth servicemen and women who died in two World Wars, our cemeteries, burial plots and memorials are a lasting tribute to those who died in some 154 countries across the world. We are proud of the work we carry out to commemorate the war dead, from building and maintaining our cemeteries and memorials to preservation of our records. Our Register records details of Commonwealth war dead so that graves or names on memorials can be located.
The Commission is a unique, values driven organisation. Our values and aims, laid out in 1917, are as relevant now as they were almost 100 years ago. We are a truly diverse organisation, employing dozens of nationalities, and caring for people from every nation, creed and race on an equal basis.
