About us
Who we are
Child in Need India (CINI) is a UK and Indian registered charity working across India's vulnerable North-Eastern states. CINI works to support and empower communities in claiming their rights and supporting people to access good quality government support. The charity started 47 years ago by Dr Samir Chaudhuri, a paediatrician who has lived through famines and drought in the Bay of Bengal. As a result of witnessing these catastrophic effects of malnutrition and a lack of clean water for children. Dr Chaudhuri developed CINI to provide proper healthcare and nutrition support for women and children living in poor communities. CINI works by providing specialist social work staff who work to engage with local communities, building vulnerable people's confidence, connecting and offering relevant support to children, and provide training and support to government workers.
To ensure systems are efficient and coordinated, CINI works by creating partnerships with community members, government workers, and regional and state government representatives to tackle issues in the four critical areas of health, nutrition, education and protection.
