About us
Who we are
Our system does not always address the root causes of crime. Anyone can end up at court alone, feeling powerless, trapped and terrified. We are independent and perfectly-placed inside the courts in Devon and Cornwall, ready to meet people in their hour of need. We sit down and listen. We think about what that person has been through. We build trust and use our experience to find solutions to complicated situations – all completely free. We help people through the process by: providing a quiet space; explaining what’s going on; deciphering court language; sitting by their side in court; coordinating their needs; and organising referrals. We try to ensure that each person gets the right tailored support. We guide towards positive change and stay by their side for as long as they want us. We can reduce the risk of re-offending by diverting away from crime towards more stable lives. Since 2005, we have decreased demand on the Justice System and other services by working with magistrates, solicitors, police, probation, judges, CPS, ushers, court cells, social services, charities, and agencies to guide people towards a more positive future. We believe that with the right emotional and practical support and life-changing opportunities, anyone can reach their potential, resulting in safer communities where everyone can thrive.
