Who we are
Carlisle Mencap, founded in June 1968, provides support and services to more than 500 adults and children with learning disabilities and their families across Cumbria.
We are an independent and local charity who are affiliated to the national organisation. We are a membership organisation and have over 150 members made up of people with learning disabilities, carers and other interested parties. We believe everyone with a learning disability has an equal right to choice, opportunity and respect, with the support they need.
We are a forward thinking organisation with a dedicated team who will always be happy to help those who need our services and their families. We have many existing serivces and can offer support for people of any age with a learning disability. We provide person centred support to all of our clients and support people with all different types disabilities. We run children’s respite facilities at the Grace Little Centre in Carlisle, Huntley Avenue in Penrith and Hart Street in ULverston. We have an adults respite centre at California House in Carlisle in addition to Supported Living and Outreach services for both adults and children in Carlisle.
