About us
Who we are
CPRE fights for a better future for England’s unique, essential and precious countryside. From giving parish councils expert advice on planning issues to influencing national policies we work to protect and enhance the countryside.
We believe a beautiful thriving countryside is important for everyone, no matter where they live. CPRE does not own any land or represent any special interests. Our members are united in their love for England’s landscapes and rural communities and stand up for the countryside so that it can continue to sustain, enchant and inspire future generations.
We use our resources to make representations to local planning authorities on planning policies and planning applications where we see a need to protect or improve the countryside.
Within Nottinghamshire we run a number of award schemes to encourage the conservation and improvement of our countryside. These include the Best Kept Village Competition, the Valerie Gillespie Award for particular community initiatives to improve the local environment and the Harry Johnson Award for the best design of a new building or the best restoration of an old building.
We organise occasional events for members to see our countryside at close hand.
