About us
Who we are
The British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA) brings together Muslim healthcare professionals in the United Kingdom as one. BIMA is independent and apolitical, to serve and inspire its members, promoting their contributions to healthcare and highlighting and addressing the challenges faced by them and those they treat.
Our mission is to unite and inspire Muslim healthcare professionals to serve our patients and professions. Our population and workforce face unique challenges, that are different given our diverse and rich communities. We anchor ourselves within our community spaces and leverage our professional expertise and influence to broker change and span that boundary.
We are a non-profit, voluntary, and democratic organisation that operates across the UK. Our core business is delivered by our volunteers who are health professionals that are deeply passionate about their communities and often hold positions of leadership and influence within them. We work with our mosques, charities, youth groups, scholars, and advocates from across the Muslim community.
Our work has won multiple awards from our community and from mainstream bodies. We work with major health charities, NHS organisations (local, regional, national), media channels, local authorities, public health bodies, and influencers to advance our mission.
