About us

Who we are

At Bluesci we believe that good mental health and wellbeing are an integral part of everybody’s life and that everyday things can improve our mental health, wellbeing, levels of happiness and life satisfaction.

The Bluesci Service was founded in 2004 by Stuart Webster (Director) and Alicia Clare (Director) Stuart and Alicia between them have over 50 years of working in the field of Mental Health in-patient and community services. Since its inception Bluesci has adhered to its fundamental belief that good mental health and wellbeing is achieved by working closely with local communities, taking its guiding principles from a variety of evidence and best practice.

The service provides solution focused interventions and self-management to overcome barriers and achieve aspirations as part of a personalised approach. This approach is achieved through supported self-advocacy drawing on the individual’s own resources and those of Bluesci and its partners.

Bluesci employees, volunteers and users of the service are expected to work collaboratively to ensure a dynamic service delivery. Bluesci believe that individuals who have experienced mental health problems and/or services can contribute a wealth of knowledge and experience to its service development.

The role of our employees in the journey of Recovery for individuals is that of companion or fellow traveller rather than an expert, supporting individuals to influence the way they want to live their lives. This does not mean abdicating responsibility or abandoning people but working in partnership with them to find a way of working that fully respects and builds on individual perspectives of wellness and self-management.

Working with users of the service, alongside partners, employees provide a ‘brokerage’ approach that enables people to achieve their aspirations through a range of creative opportunities including: music and arts, volunteering opportunities, education and training related activities linked to mainstream life domains.
