About us
Who we are
Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust has been working for nature’s recovery across Birmingham, Sandwell, Wasall, Dudley and Wolverhampton for more than 40 years. Founded in 1980 as The Urban Wildlife Group, we were the first organisation in what became a major urban wildlife movement, helping to raise awareness of the wonderful wealth of wildlife to be found within our towns and cities, and to work for its protection.
Today, we stand as the strategic nature conservation leader in Birmingham and the Black Country, influencing how our landscape evolves to adapt to changing populations, lifestyle and land use.
Our culture and values
Our vision is to create a wilder Birmingham and Black Country with more green and wild spaces where nature thrives, and where everyone has an equal opportunity to access nature in their daily lives.
We believe every child should have a wild future, and that every community should have nature at its heart. We work with all sections of our community to help reverse nature’s decline, create better places to live and to improve health and wellbeing for all. By working together, Birmingham and the Black Country will become a place where wildlife, wild places and people can thrive alongside one another.
Together we can achieve a wilder a future.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We are committed to ensuring transparent and non-discriminatory recruitment and employment.
As a progressive charitable organisation, we champion equal opportunities and welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of any protected characteristic.
We provide interview questions to candidates in advance of their interview date to help them feel more at ease.
We are always looking at ways to increase the diversity of our organisation. We are currently working towards becoming a Disability Confident employer.
