About us
Who we are
As a local cancer charity, Big C is dedicated to supporting anyone affected by cancer in Norfolk and neighbouring counties whilst working with key partners in research and healthcare to improve future outcomes.
An estimated 2.5 million people are living with cancer in the UK. 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime. Big C seeks and implements new approaches and projects to make sure that no one is missing out on the opportunity to access our support.
Big C’s work focuses on 6 key areas:
1. Support – for people affected by cancer
2. Research – into cancer
3. Equipment – provision for the region’s main acute hospital trusts
4. Education – provision of interventional and presentational education programmes
5. Income Generation – raising vital funds to improve the lives of people living with cancer
6. People – Big C service users, their loved ones, Big C trustees, staff, volunteers and fundraisers
Big C is passionately committed to wellbeing, inclusion, diversity, equity, and supporting achievement of the charity’s vision and organisational objectives. It aims to unite all Big C employees and volunteers, ensuring everyone is effective, productive, happy and customer-focused.
Our culture and values
Big C’s Core Values are Respect, Empathy, Support, Trust and Honesty.
They provide a benchmark for behaviours across the organisation. If you are passionate about joining our mission, share these values, and have the skills and experience we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.
We are committed to ensuring inclusion and respect for individuality and diversity across all areas of the organisation. To support this, we have signed up to being Disability Confident Committed, have Workplace Health Champions and Mental Health First Aiders within our teams to support you at work.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At Big C, we believe that equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are fundamental principles that guide our mission and shape our impact.
We are committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, socioeconomic status, or any other dimension of diversity. To achieve this, we will focus on delivering ongoing learning, reflection and improvement to ensure that our employment and volunteering opportunities, and our services, are accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of those who would like to work with us and for those we serve.
Equity is at the core of what we do. We understand that cancer disparities exist across different communities, and we are dedicated to addressing these by ensuring equitable access to our services, resources, and support, regardless of background. Furthermore, we believe that every member of our team deserves fair and equal treatment, opportunities for growth, and a supportive work environment.
Diversity is celebrated and valued within our organisation. We recognise that diversity of experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives strengthens our ability to support those affected by cancer. We are committed to fostering a culture that embraces diversity and actively seeks out and values the contributions of individuals from all backgrounds.
We are dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where all individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered to participate fully. We actively work to challenge biases and create opportunities for marginalised voices to be heard and valued in decision-making.
Beyond our team, we invite our supporters, partners, and stakeholders to join us in our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for our team and local people affected by cancer.
