About us
Who we are
We are a local charity, supporting over 9,000 young people aged 4 to 25 and more than 2,800 adult volunteers in over 100 communities across Berkshire. Across the UK, Scouting provides opportunities every week to over 450,000 young people and is supported by over 115,000 adult volunteers. In nearly every country around the world, over 32 million young people experience the benefits of Scouting to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.
We know that many more young people and adults want to join who we don’t currently have space for; we know of at least 2,500 across Berkshire from January 2022. Alongside our determination to provide high quality experiences to our members, we are committed to offering opportunities to even more young people than before. By opening new sections, we will grow the numbers of young people across Berkshire who enjoy being Scouts.
We have an established repeatable model to create new sections for our different age groups; Squirrels (4-6 year olds) Beavers (6-8 year olds), Cubs (8-10 year olds), Scouts (10-14 year olds) and Explorers (14-18 year olds) that focusses on building new volunteer teams within local communities who can then attract new young people to join. You will be a catalyst for opening new sections, as well as providing support to volunteers who are keen to increase the number of young people in existing sections.
