About us
Who we are
Benjamin Franklin House is the world's only remaining Franklin home. For nearly sixteen years between 1757 and 1775, Dr Benjamin Franklin – scientist, diplomat, philosopher, inventor, Founding Father of the United States and more – lived behind its doors. Built circa 1730, it is today a dynamic museum and educational facility.
We rely heavily on volunteers to allow us to offer a wide range of around 40 public events per year in addition to our daily offerings the Historical Experience, a 'history-as-theatre' approach to interpreting Franklin's time in London, and architectural tours of the building. We also rely on volunteers to help us deliver a varied programme of activities for primary school groups every Tuesday during term-time.
Our volunteers come from all backgrounds and walks of life and we greatly appreciate the time, energy and enthusiasm they bring to the organisation.
