About us
Who we are
About Belfast Community Circus School
We have been creating quality circus experiences with children and young people across Northern Ireland since 1985. Pioneering work with 2 year olds up to 18 years old through our Itty Bitty and Youth Circus has seen young people acquire advanced skills at an early age and engage in a love of performance, which lasts for many years to come. We operate the only Circus Facility in Ireland in the heart of Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter where we have played an instrumental role in developing the area as a cultural quarter for the city. We are committed to promoting equality and to social inclusion through our work, which involves much outreach delivered free to participants an much subsidized work for our members.
Our Work
We are one of Northern Ireland’s most dynamic and active participatory arts organisations. Each week we work with more than 250 regular members at the Gordon Street building including Itty Bitty students (2-7 years) Youth Circus members (8-18) Disabled students (16-19) and young adults (16-30) We would also work with more than 200 young people between the ages of 8-18 as part of our extensive Outreach Community Circus programme. Across the year we stage a range of performances featuring members in theatre, cabaret and street settings, which allows for members to take part at a level they feel comfortable with. We work with 12 EU partners as part of a formal partnership called Caravan Circus Network, which supports exchanges of practice between young people, leading youth circus managers and trainers on an ongoing basis across Europe.
