About us
Who we are
BASICS North West (British Association of Immediate Care Scheme Northwest) is a confederation of several pre-hospital emergency medical care/BASICS charities that were set up to provide additional doctor-led immediate medical support to the North West Ambulance Service within their catchment area of Cumbria, Lancashire & North Cheshire.
The funds raised by the charities are for the provision of medical equipment and training for doctors with specialist pre-hospital emergency medical care training and experience within those areas. The amount each charity has is totally dependent on the amount of donations, grants and bequests made in the local areas. Although each Charity/Individual within the Confederation has slightly different ways of collecting and fundraising, the main aim of the Confederation is to unify the objectives and Governance Structure of each of these Charities and Individuals. The result of this is that the Ambulance Service and the public, whom it serves, can rest assured that all of the Doctors operating within BASICS North West are performing reliably and with unanimity to the standards set by the Confederation, the Ambulance Service and by the Care Quality Commission.
