About us

Who we are

AtaLoss was founded in 2016 to ensure that every bereaved person in the UK can easily find the support that they need in one place. With the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, as Patron, we enable bereaved people to search for and easily find support services - whether that be national agencies, or local support - and for information they need to help them deal with their grief and the loss of a loved one. The website directory currently offers over 1200 accurate and up to date services from across the UK, offering searchers the opportunity to find support appropriate to them and enabling professionals to confidently refer bereaved people to the site.

Our Vision Nobody in the UK suffering a significant loss should be left floundering or alone. We want to prevent mental health issues arising caused by unresolved grief, with every bereaved person able to easily find the support and/or information they need, whenever they need it, wherever they live, whatever their age or background. Access to information and the full choice of support available needs to be in one place, easy to search, accurate, and up to date.

Our Ambition We are working towards the website being the trusted, 'go-to' place for bereavement support in the UK. We are doing this by;

  • Researching and collaborating with other organisations to ensure we capture services in all corners of the UK so that bereaved people have a full range of choices of support whenever they need support;
  • Ensuring our listings are accurate and up to date;
  • Working closely with experts to provide up to date information for bereaved people;
  • Ensuring services offered provide the full range of specialist skills bereavement people often need to deal with specific losses;
  • Providing free immediate access to a professional counsellor to talk to via a live-chat facility on our website;
  • Promoting our service widely geographically and to professionals dealing with bereaved people in different circumstances e.g Funeral Directors, NHS, voluntary groups, carers and many others;
  • Creatively developing our service to ensure we serve people less able to access services digitally such as older people, people whose first language isn't English, blind people;
  • Offering training to anyone involved in supporting bereaved young people and children;
  • Equipping churches in the UK to provide bereavement support to anyone (of any faith or none) in their community through training and provision of materials.
