About us
Who we are
The Association of Occupational Health Nurse Practitioners (AOHNP) is a well-established professional membership body dedicated to developing and promoting the professional leadership and practice of occupational health nursing.
Our membership comprises occupational health nurse practitioners working across all sectors of UK industry and at all levels of employment from service directors to students. Many of our members provide their OH services as sole traders or company directors. We also welcome individuals who work or have an interest in occupational health, but are not registered nurses, as associate members. Our current membership is approaching 500 and is expected to grow over the coming year..
Founded over 25 years ago, our aims are as follows:
- Promote – to actively represent and promote the practice of occupational health nursing
- Influence – to support and influence the learning and development of occupational health nursing through participation in curriculum development and occupational health standards
- Support – to support and promote the continuing professional development of occupational health nurses
- Benchmark – to work in association with other relevant agencies to benchmark and research occupational health nursing practice
- Network – to provide a network of professional expertise and support.
Our volunteer Board and Activist team are spread across the whole of the UK and we primarily communicate and work remotely via social media and VOIP platforms. The Board is made up of 10 Director and non Executive Director roles, all of which are currently filled by currently registered or retired OH nurses. The volunteer Treasurer/Non Executive Director would work alongside the Board, advising them on finance matters. The association is currently set up as a not for profit community association, however consideration is being given to obtaining charitable status.
